Activities (Classes VI to XII)

Annual Sports Meet :

Annual Sports Meet 2011-12 was held on 21st January 2012. Mr. D.N. Gandhi (Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Rajkot), Mr. S. K. Sharma (Joint Director of Foreign Trade, Rajkot), Mr. Rajendra Kamdar (Pro-Vice Chairman, DPS Rajkot), PTC members and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. Ram Jha of Class XII was declared the Best Sportsperson of the year.

Talent Show :

‘Talent Show’ of Classes VI to VIII was organized on 8th January 2012. The Chief Guest Shri Shubhendra Rao, an eminent exponent of sitar, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp along with Shri Himanshu Mahant and Principal. The programme started with Sitar Vaadan by Shri Shubhendra Rao. He was accompanied by Shri Himanshu Mahant on Tabla. The atmosphere was filled with the Divine Music. It was followed by the Talent Show. The students presented a wide spectrum of inspirational, devotional, patriotic songs and instrumental music pieces. A skit "The Change" was staged reflecting changes in education music, moral values, politics and environment from pre and post independence era to the present age.The Chief Guest in his address advised the youth to carry forward the movement in order to understand the richness of our culture. He appreciated the school for giving proper exposure to the students about musical instruments. The event got wide coverage from print and electronic media.

Best Singer of the School Competition :

The ‘Best Singer of the School Competition-2011-12’ was organized at Delhi Public School Rajkot on 28th January 2012 to recognize the Best Singer of the school. 24 students of Group A, B, C vied for the top spot and presented devotional, patriotic songs and gazals.Mr. Danial Raju and Mr. Agarwal from CBSE were present as guests of honour on this occasion. The competition started with the lighting of the lamp and a small cultural programme. Parents of the participants were invited. Eminent Music teachers of the city, Mr. Anant Vyas and Mr. Bhushan Pathak of Rajkumar College graced the occasion as judges. Priya Nandini of VII-A was adjudged the Best Singer of the School. All the participants were given certificates.

Interschool Competition :

Harsh Mehta of Class XI represented at National Level in CBSE Athletic Meet in U-19 (Boys) Shotput held at DPS Meerut from 4th to 7th January 2012.

Competitive Exam:

87 students from Classes I to IX appeared in International English Olympiad held on 19th January 2012.
45 students from Classes IV to XII appeared in an International Informatics Olympiad 2012 organized by the Computer Literacy Foundation on 14th January 2012. Six students were selected for second level.

Central Teacher Eligibility Test-2012 :

Our school was selected as one of the four centres for CTET-2012 by CBSE. The test was conducted on 29th January 2012. Principal, Manoj Dubey was the City Coordinator for the same.

Publication :

An article written Akshadha Easwar of Class IX was published in Rajkot Plus and NIE addition of The Times of India during the month.

Republic Day Celebration :

A cultural programme on the eve of Republic Day was presented by the students on 25th January 2012. Students delivered speeches, read articles and presented partioc dance and songs related to the occasion.

Activities (Classes Pre Nursery to V)

Talent Show :

Students of Class Nursery presented their talent show on 28th January 2012. The theme of the show was ‘My Family’. The students presented dances, skits, group songs and instrumental music pieces to entertain everyone. Parents were invited.

Makarsankranti Celebrations :

Makarsankranti was celebrated on 13th January 2012 by the students of Classes Pre- Nursery to Prep by decorating the kites. The students of Classes I and II prepared posters related to the occasion. Class III students prepared kites to celebrate the occasion.

Safety and First Aid :

Students of Classes III-A and B prepared First Aid Boxes as a part of their Science activity on 25th January 2012. A talk on Safety and First Aid was given by our school nurse to the students.

Paper Bag Activity:

Paper Bags were prepared by the students of Classes III to V as a part of their Env. activity on 12th January 2012.

Happy Period Activity :

Students of Classes Nursery to II visited "Sarvodaya Upavan" as a part of their Happy Period Activity on 7th January 2012.

Group Discussion :

Students of Class V had a Group Discussion on the topic "Impact of Television on Children" on 7th January 2012.

December - 2011

Activities (Classes VI to XII)

Anti-Tobacco Rally:

An Anti-Tobacco Rally was organized by Delhi Public School Rajkot on 10th December 2011. Students, staff and parents participated in large numbers. It was flagged off by the Principal with Head Girl and Jr. Head Girl of the school. The participants were carrying flags and banners on ill effects of Tobacco. School orchestra (classical & western) played Bhajans and patriotic songs on the occasion. The aim of the rally was to spread the awareness in the society about the ill effects of Tobacco. The event was widely covered by print & electronic media.

Best Instrumentalist of the School-2011 :

The competition ‘Best Instrumentalist of the School-2011’ was organized on 24th December, 2011. Students presented melodious performances on western, folk and classical rhythm on musical instruments like drum set, guitar, tabla, dhol, conga, zengo, keyboard, sitar, harmonium and mesmerized the audience. Mr. Kamlesh Gosai, Sr. Div. Operations Manager, Western Railway, Rajkot was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Experts in the field of music, Mr. Mehul Trivedi, Mr. Amit Dave and Mr. Himanshu Raninga decided the winners. The best three instrumentalists in Junior Category (Classes III to V), Middle Category (Classes VI to VIII) and Senior Category (Classes IX to XII) were awarded certificates. Vedant Rakholia (Class X) was awarded the ‘Best Instrumentalist of the School-2011’ trophy.

Interschool Competition :

3 students of our school participated in Gujarat State Speed Roller Skating Championship Tournament which was held at DPS Bopal, Ahmedabad on 7th December, 2011.

CCE Workshop :

CBSE authorized S. Chand Publication to conduct a CCE workshop in our school on 17th December, 2011. Ms. Nita Kapur was the resource person for the same. 40 teachers from CBSE affiliated schools of Saurashtra Region participated in it.

Khel Mahakumbh :

Our school U-16 Football team was School Champion at the Khel Mahakumbh-2011 held on 5th December, 2011. 5 students of our football team were selected for the State Level. They represented State Level U-16 football team at Bharuch on 14th December, 2011.

Group Discussion :

Class IX had Group Discussion on the topic Rajyasabha or the Upper House has lost its relevance.
Class X had their Group discussion on the topic “Generation Gap” on 3rd December, 2011.

Publications in The Times of India :

Picture drawn by Sneha Bhuva Class X-A was published in NIE edition of The Times of India during the month.

Educational Trips :

Class IX (A & B) visited Science City, Lothal and Indroda Park on 17th and 18th December, 2011. Students enjoyed and gained the knowledge of nature’s beauty and experienced the various presentations of Space, Galaxy, 3D Movie etc.
Students of Classes X (A & B) visited Dholavira on an educational trip on 3rd & 4th December 2011. They visited the excavated site of Harrappan civilization which was 5000 years old. Students were very keen to see the rainwater harvesting system and some ancient artifacts. They also visited the BSF border post. They met some defense personals. They also saw some Dinosaurs egg fossils which were 18 crore years old. It was a very nice experience for the students.

Community Service Club :

A fund of Rs. 4661/- was collected by the students of Community Service Club on the occasion of Armed Force Flag day on 7th December, 2011 & sent to District Soldiers Welfare & Rehabilitation Office.

Invitation for Orchestra :

Our school Orchestra was invited by Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown on 23rd December, 2011 during the District Conference of Rotary Club. They played patriotic songs to the delight of audience.

NCC :

Rishi Shukla and Manan Rangani of Class IX-B went for NCC trekking camp from 8th to 22nd December 2011 at Saputara.
24 NCC cadets of our school participated in CAT camp at T.B. Jasani Hospital, Kotharia, Rajkot District from 19th to 29th December 2011.

Activities (Classes Pre Nursery to V)

Rhyme Time Show :

Introduction show followed by a Rhyme Time Show was held on 20th December, 2011 for Class Pre Nursery.

Talent Show :

Students of Class Prep presented their talent show on 3rd December, 2011. Dances, aerobics, skits, songs and instrumental music piece were presented to entertain everyone. Parents were invited.

Interhouse Competition :

Interhouse Cricket Tournament was held on 7th December, 2011 for Classes III to V.
Interhouse Table Tennis Tournament was held for Classes V to VII on 7th December, 2011.

Training Workshop :

Ms. Palki Vasudeva and Ms. Uma Gol attended a workshop on “Effective English Language Teaching” conducted by Ratna Sagar Pvt. Ltd. on 16th December, 2011. Fr. Francis M Peter was the resource person for the same.

Group Discussion :

Classes III & IV had their Group Discussion on 17th December, 2011 on the topics “Should animals be kept as pets ?” and “Co-curricular activities are a must for overall development of a child” respectively.

Christmas Celebration :

Students of Classes Pre-Nur to III celebrated Christmas on 23rd December, 2011. They came dressed for the occasion and enjoyed dancing with the Santa Claus.

Educational Trip :

Students of Classes III and IV visited Gir Forest and Devaliya Park on 24th December, 2011.
Classes Nursery and Prep visited Aji Dam Zoo on 17th December, 2011.
Classes I & II went to Hingolgarh for Ecological trip on 17th December, 2011 and Class V went to Hingolgarh as a part of their ecological trip on 3rd December 2011. Children visited Hingolgarh Palace, Museum, Cactus Garden etc. They also saw some poisonous species of snakes kept in enclosures. A lecture on the snakes and its species was and its species was given by a Forest Officer.

Publications :

Painting by Niyati Shah of Class IV-B was published in NIE edition of The Times of India during the month.

Nature Walk :

Students of Classes III enjoyed Nature Walk around the school campus on 1st December, 2010.

November - 2011

Activities (Classes VI to XII)

Science Exhibition :

The Annual Science Exhibition was organized in the school on 26th November 2011, Saturday. Dr. Mahendrabhai K. Padalia, Vice Chancellor Saurashtra University inaugurated the exhibition. Lt. Col. S. L. Sharma was the Guest of Honour. Members of the School Managing Committee, Members of the Parent Teacher Council and other parents, students and teachers of other schools visited the exhibition in large numbers. The students exhibited innovative projects on Electronics and Gadgets, Production of Energy, Human Physiology, Detecting Food Adulteration, Recombinant DNA Technology, Global Warming and Green House Effect, JCB Model, Hydraulic Lift, Home Barometer, Paper Re-cycle, Mobile Security, Water Rocket, General Science Toys, Submarine, different topics in Commerce and Mathematics etc. Alongwith the projects a separate Musical Skit was presented to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco in the society, which received appreciation from the visitors.

Merit Certificate :

Two students of our school received Merit Certificate from CBSE for their outstanding performance and obtaining A1 Grade in all the main subjects.

Interhouse Competitions :

Interhouse Basketball Tournament was held for Classes VI-VIII (Boys) on 16th November 2011, Classes IX-XII (Boys) on 17th November 2011 and Classes VI-XII (Girls) on 19th November 2011.
Interhouse Chess Tournament was held for Classes IV to XII on 16th November 2011.
Interhouse Solo Instrument was held for Classes IV to XII on 18th November 2011. Ms. Pooja Vaishnav and Mr. Hardik Sagar eminent musicians of the town decided the winners.

Interschool Competition:

Six students of our school U-19 Basketball team for state level at Derdi Kumbhaji participated in school games, Kutch from 5th to 7th November 2011.

Interschool CBSE Competition :

The Basketball team secured 5th Position in CBSE West Zone Cluster, IX Basketball Tournament for boys held at Billimora High School, Panchgani from 17th to 20th November 2011.
Harsh Mehta of Class XI secured 1st Position in shotput in CBSE Cluster IX Athletic Meet held at Jay International School, Rajkot from 8th to 10th November 2011. He has been selected for the National Level.

International Informatics Olympiad :

45 students from Classes VI to XII participated in the International Informatics Olympiad held by Computer Literacy Foundation, New Delhi on 13th November 2011.
114 students from Classes VI to XII participated in the National Science Olympiad held on 17th November 2011.
43 students from Classes VI to IX participated in Iken Scientifica held on 19th November 2011.

NCC Annual Training Camp :

Three students of our school participated in NCC Annual Training Camp held at Kothariya from 8th to 17th November 2011. Rishi Shukla of Class IX-B secured 3rd Position in firing which was hosted by our school.
Mayur Jadeja of Class VIII-A secured 2nd Position in Musical Chair in the recreation activities which were organized during the camp. Dhruv Bhartia of Class IX-A also actively participated in the camp.
NCC Day was celebrated in the school. The NCC cadets and staff planted saplings on this occasion.

Khel Maha-Kumbh-2011 :

During Khel Maha-Kumbh-2011, by Gujarat Darts Association conducted Darts Competition on 29th November 2011 in the school. 47 players participated in it. Dhruv Bhartia and Rishi Shukla secured 1st and 2nd Position in U-16 Boys. Chavi Gupta and Nikita Padalia secured 1st and 2nd Position in U-16 Girls and Dhruv Trivedi and Shubham Goyal secured 1st and 2nd Position in above 16 boys.

114 students from Classes I to V participated in the National Science Olympiad held on 17th November 2011.

October - 2011

Activities (Classes VI to XII)

“Save Sparrows” Campaign :

The drive to Save the Sparrows is already going on in the school campus. It was refreshed through Save Sparrows Campaign on 11th October 2011.Ms. Geetha Johri, Police Commissioner, Rajkot was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Members of Parent Teacher Council & other guests were also present. A special assembly based on the theme of the campaign was presented by the students. ‘Birds House’ were put up at different places in the school by the guests and the Members of Environment Club. Almost all bird houses are occupied.

Interschool CBSE Competitions :

Our school participated in CBSE West Zone Cluster IX, Basketball Tournament for Boys held at Billimoria High School, Panchgani from 17th to 20th October 2011. Team reached upto quarter final.

Teacher’s Training Programme :

Dr. Nilesh Gohel and Mr. Raja Mishra attended a workshop on clCgNL 5|RFZ VlEIFGc organized by Saraswati House on 10.10.2011. Dr. Dabbas was the resource person for the same.
A Maths workshop for the teachers upto 8th standard in the school on 15th October 2011. Mr. Nilesh Nimkar was the resource person for the same. 25 teachers from different CBSE schools of the city participated in it. OVP provided the resource person.

Scholastic Book Fair :

A Book Fair was organized by the well known publisher Scholastic in the school on 14th & 15th October 2011.

Publication Articles :

The poems / articles / pictures drawn / written by Utsav Borad (IV-A), Akash Naik (VI-B), Krupali Ramani (X) and Birendra Singh (English Teacher) were published in NIE/Rajkot Plus Edition of The Times of India during the month.

Guest Speaker Programme :

Mr. Manoj Kothari from Mexus Education provided knowledge to the students regarding Iken Scientifica – A hands-on Science & Technology Competition.

Report Card Distribution :

Report Cards for 1st term were distributed to the parents of Classes VI to XII on 15th October 2011.

Social Sciences Quiz :

A Social Sciences Quiz was conducted by the students of Class IX-A for the students of Class IX-B. The quiz was based on horror theme.

Activities (Classes Pre Nursery to V) :

Navratri Celebration :

Navratri Celebration was held in the school on 3rd October 2011 for the students of Classes Pre-Nursery to IV. The tiny tots of ‘Little Lords’ and ‘My Own’ Play Houses were invited to join the celebration.

Talent Show :

Students of Class II presented their Talent Show on 15th October 2011. The students presented PowerPoint presentations, dances, aerobics, group songs and instrumental music pieces to entertain everyone. Parents were invited.

Diwali Celebration :

Students of Pre Primary Classes decorated diyas, Classes I to III made Diwali Cards and Classes IV & V made colourful flower rangolis in the school as a part of Diwali Celebration on 19th and 21st October 2011.

Report Card Distribution :

Report Cards for 1st term were distributed to the parents of Classes Pre-Nur to V on 14th October 2011.

Rhyme Time Show :

Class Pre-Nur had their Rhyme Time Show on 19th October 2011.
Class Prep had their Rhyme Time Show on 17th October 2011.
Class Nursery had their Rhyme Time Show on 20th October 2011.

August - 2011

Activities (Classes VI to XII)

Certificate of Merit :

Three students of Class XII Amrulkhan Mahorvani, Akshay Singh and Neelam Rangani received Merit Certificates from CBSE for their outstanding performance in Class XII.

Felicitation of students with 100 marks in AISSCE 2011 :

Amrulkhan Mahorvani of Class XII secured 100 marks in Mathematics and Akshay Singh of Class XII secured 100 marks in Informatics Practices. These students received a cheque of Rs. 5000/- each from R. K. Jain Foundation. The students and their parents were felicitated in a special assembly on 4^th August 2011.

Felicitation of students with 100% attendance :

Students with 100% attendance during Academic Session 2010-11 and their parents were felicitated on 4^th August 2011 in a special assembly.

Joy of Giving Week :

‘Joy of Giving Week’ (2^nd to 9^th August 2011) was organized by the Community Service Club of the school. There was an overwhelming response as students and staff contributed food items throughout this week. All these items were distributed to the helpers of the school on 18^th August 2011 by the members of the Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown and students and parent representative of the Community Service Club.

Foreign Visits :

Ms. Kavita Sagathiya (Dance teacher) participated in Khareef Festival 2011 at Salalah, Muscat and Sohar, Oman through Indian Council for Cultural Relation, New Delhi from 26^th July to 2^nd August.
Ms. Miriam Schaefer from Ullstadt, Germany visited our school on International Youth Exchange Programme sponsored by Rotary Club of Neustadt / Aisch. She was the guest student of the school during the month of August.

Interschool Competitions :

9 students from Classes X to XII participated in Science Fest held at K. D. Ambani School, Jamnagar on 6^th & 7^th August 2011 and achieved 1^st Prize in the event “Science Made Easy”. They also participated in other events like Poster Making Competition, Innovative Model with Power Point Presentation and Science Quiz.
Rajkot District Interschool Skating Competition was held at Morbi on 9^th August 2011. Dhruv Pandya (VII-B) secured 2^nd Position in U-14 Skating Rink – 3 Competition. Dev Rajdev (V-A) secured 1^st Position in U-11 Skating Rink – 3 Competition. Kushal Tanna (V-A) secured 2^nd Position in U-11 Skating Rink – 3 Competition. Kavya Padharia (VI-A) secured 1^st Position in U-14 Roller Skating inline time trial and U-14 inline Skating Rink-2 Competition. Kavya Padharia and Dev Rajdev are selected for State Level Skating Competition.
Our school Basketball team was the Champion in Rajkot District Interschool Basketball Tournament on 17^th August 2011 at Derdi Kumbhaji (Amreli). Seven players of our team are selected for State Level Basket Ball Team.

Inter-DPS Competitions :

Parth Patekar of Class IX-A secured 1^st Position in Inter-DPS Children’s Art Exhibition 2011 organized by DPS Ranipur, Haridwar. Dhwani Shah of X-A received a Certificate of Merit for the same.
The students of Classes VI to XII participated in Inter-DPS Information Technology Festival – 2011 Online event named Decryptonite organized by DPS R K Puram, New Delhi.
Our school Cricket Team participated in Inter-DPS Cricket Tournament 2011 held at DPS Jodhpur from 26^th to 28^th August 2011.

Gyaanvaani :

Our students presented a programme on the eve of ‘Independence Day’ at Gyaanvaani on 11^th August 2011. It included speeches, songs and instrumental music piece based on patriotism.

Competitive Exam :

328 students of Classes III to XII participated in the International Assessment for Indian Schools Examination conducted by New South Wales University, Australia and Macmillan India Ltd. on 26^th and 27^th August 2011.

Independence Day Celebration :

On the occasion of 64 years of India’s Independence, a special celebration was held in the school. The Chief Guest, Lt. Col. S. L. Sharma from NCC unfurled the tri-colour. The students presented patriotic songs, instrumental music pieces, speeches and dance in the programme.

Guest Speaker Programme :

Mr. Priyesh Vaya and his team from Career Launcher provided knowledge regarding future prospects to the students of Classes XI and XII specifically regarding ‘Law as a Career’ on 3^rd August 2011. Question Answer Session took place between the students and experts.

Publication of Articles :

An article on Naxalism – Threat to the security of India by Gayatri Singh of Class IX was published in NIE edition of The Times of India on 2^nd August 2011.
An article on Adolescence written by Dhanuka Sojitra of Class XI was published in Rajkot Plus edition of The Times of India on 19^th August 2011.

Interhouse Competitions :

Hindi Recitation Competition for Classes V & VII was held on 10^th August 2011.
Hindi Debate Competition for Classes VIII-XII was held on 19^th August 2011.
Group Dance Competition for Classes V – XII was held on 26^th August 2011.

Investiture Ceremony :

The members of the Students’ Council 2011-12 were given their badges by Lt. Col. S. L Sharma of NCC Unit Rajkot during the Investiture Ceremony held on 12^th August 2011.

Activities (Classes Pre Nursery to V) :

Janmashtami Celebration

The students of Classes Pre-Nursery to IV celebrated Janmashtami with ‘Matki Phod’, followed by a Raas-Garba programme on 20^th August 2011. All the students came attired in traditional dresses.

Eid Celebration:

The students of Classes Pre-Nursery to IV celebrated Eid-Ul-Fitr on 30^th August 2011 students dressed in traditional dresses appropriate to the occasion. They sang Sufi songs and recited Arabic prayers, delivered speeches on the significance of Eid and embraced each other to exchange the greetings of Eid with ‘Eid Mubarak’.

Spell Bee Competition :

The students of Class III participated in the Spell Bee Competition held on 27^th August 2011.

Activities :

Classes Pre-Nur to II had a Rakhi Making activity on 9^th August 2011 to celebrate Rakshabandhan.

Parents workshop :

Ms. Brenda Gonsalves conducted a workshop for the parents of Class II related to the Behavioural problems among the young children as a part of Phase-II of her on going Early Childhood Education course on 10^th August 2011.

Trips & Tours :

Classes I and II visited Iskcon Temple for picnic on 11^th August 2011.
Classes III and IV visited Aji Dam for picnic on 19^th August 2011.
Class V visited Aji Dam for picnic on 20^th August 2011.

Interhouse Competitions :

Hindi Recitation Competition for Classes IV and V was held on 10^th August 2011.
Group Dance Competition for Classes IV and V was held on 26^th August 2011.

May-June-July - 2011

Activities (Classes VI to XII)

Joy of Giving Week :

‘Joy of Giving Week’ (26^th September to 2^nd October 2010) was organized by the Community Service Club and Interact Club of the school. There was an overwhelming response as students and staff contributed wheat, rice, pulses, sugar, oil packets and toys throughout this week. All these items were distributed to the not so privileged section of the society on 8^th October 2010 by the Students Council Members and students and staff of the Clubs along with the invited guests.

Inter-DPS West Zone ‘Games & Sports Quiz -2011 :

Inter-DPS West Zone ‘Games & Sports Quiz’ was hosted by Delhi Public School Rajkot on 16^th July 2011. Mr. Ved Pal (Divisional Railway Manager, Rajkot) inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp. Dr. Ketan Thakkar (eminent Orthopedic Surgeon, Rajkot) was the Quiz Master. Mr. Rajendra Kamdar (Pro Vice Chairman of the school) and PTC Members were present on this occasion. Eleven teams from Delhi Public Schools of Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jaipur, Vadodara, Jodhpur, Surat, Gandhidham, Gandhinagar and the host school participated. DPS Gandhinagar and DPS Ahmedabad qualified for the National Level. The students of the host school presented a short scintillating cultural programme on this occasion.

Interschool Competitions :

A team of our girls participated in Annual Inter-DPS Folk Dance Competition – Umang Utsav held at DPS Gandhidham on 15^th July 2011.
9 students participated in the Inter-School Swimming Competition held at K. D. Ambani Vidyamandir, Jamnagar on 2^nd July 2011. Yash Doshi bagged ‘Best Swimmer’award in U-16 (Boys) and Brinda Joshi bagged ‘Best Swimmer’ Award in U-12. (Girls) Category. Total 134 students from different CBSE school participated in the event. Our team won 9 Gold and 5 Silver and 6 Bronze Medals.

Best Dancer of the School Competition

‘Best Dancer of the School Competition’ was organized on 30^th July 2011 to recognize the Best Dancing Talents in the school. 21 students vied for the top spot and presented dances on semi-classical, folk, devotional, nature and sufi songs. Eminent dancers of the city, Ms. Heena Mehta and Ms. Rupal Mehta graced the occasion as judges. Anoushka Jain of VII-A was adjudged the best dancer of the school. Mr. Siddharth Singh (Provident Fund Commissioner, Rajkot) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. R.K. Jain (President, R. K. Jain Foundation), the Guest of Honour announced the cash prize of Rs. 500/- to each participant to promote dancing talents. The event was covered by media.

Summer Camp :

The school organized a Summer Camp from 9^th to 19^th May 2011. Various activities like Carpentry, Robotics, Art, Sports, Swimming, Dance, Vocal and Instrumental Music were held for the students of Classes Pre Nursery to XII. The students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed to the fullest. Experts were called to train the students for some of the activities.

Environment Club :

“Nature never betrays the heart that loves her”. With this conviction, ‘Environment Week’ was celebrated in the school from 23^rd to 28^th June, 2011. Col. Chaudhary of the N.C.C. Unit Rajkot inaugurated the programme. He expressed happiness to see the grown up plants which he had planted in the campus a year before. He appreciated the school and inspired the students to continue this good effort. Special Assemblies were held, where the members of the Environment Club presented speeches, articles, mime show, skit and posters related to environmental issues. Officials of the District Education Department, Members of the School Management Committee and eminent members of the Rotary Club, Rajkot joined the students in their mission for a healthy environment. The Members of the DPS family pledged to plant trees and preserve the environment.

Teachers’ Training / Workshop :

Mr. Bhavin Vyas and Ms. Divya Bhatt attended a seminar on ‘Implementation of CCE’ in Classes IX and X at K. D. Ambani Vidyamandir, Jamnagar on 9^th July 2011.

Guest Speaker Programme :

Mr. G. Satyanarayan, who is working as an Advisor gave a talk on Self Motivation to the students of Classes XI and XII on 8^th July 2011. There was question – answer session with the students.
Ms. Vincy Thakral, Business Development Manager (Ed Terra Adventures) gave the information about USA, NASA Space Camp to the students.

Foreign Visits :

Aksh Gajipara of Class XI went to play football in Gothia Cup World Youth Soccer Championship 2011 at Gothenburg, Sweden from 17^th to 25^th July 2011.
Yash Doshi of Class XI was sent to Ullstad, Germany by Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown on International Youth Exchange Programme. He stayed there for 5 weeks.
Ms. Kavita Sagathia (Dance Teacher) participated in International Art Festival 2011 at Bulawayo, Zimbabwe through Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi from 25^th April to 3^rd May 2011.

Assessment Test :

Assessment Test for Classes X & XII was conducted from 20^th to 29^th June 2011.

NCC :

The procedure for enrolment of New NCC cadets of the school has been completed. They actively participated in plantation drive during environment week.

Group Discussion for Classes VI, VII and XI was held on 16^th July 2011.

High Fliers :

Kashyap Majumdar of Class VI-B and Amrulkhan Mahorvani of Class XII were gifted with Britanica Ready Reference Encyclopedia by National Science Olympiad. Nine students from Classes VI to XII achieved merit certificates for thirteenth National Science Olympiad second level examination.

Happy Periods :

Ms. Visalakshi Krishnamurthy, a grandparent, was invited for storytelling to the students of Classes Nursery to II during Happy Period on 30^th July 2011.

Talent Show :

Students of Class III presented their Talent Show on 2^nd July 2011. Power Point Presentation, Science Projects, Dance, Songs, Aerobics and Instrumental Music pieces were presented to entertain everyone. Parents were invited.

Parents Workshop :

Ms. Brenda Gonsalves conducted a workshop for the parents of Class I related to the Behavioural problems among the young children as a part of Phase-II of her ongoing Early Childhood Education course on 27.7.2011.

Trips & Tours :

Classes Nursery and Prep visited the Super Market on 21^st and 28^th July 2011 respectively to get a shopping experience. Children did shopping with the money brought by them.
Students of Class Pre-Nursery visited a Joint Family as a part of their educational visit on 29^th July 2011.

Best Educationist Award :

Mr. Manoj Dubey, Principal was awarded with the ‘Best Educationist Award’ on 9^th June 2011 by International Institute of Education and Management, New Delhi. The award was presented by Dr. Bhisma Narayan Singh, former Governor of Tamilnadu in presence of Justice O.P. Verma, former Governor of Punjab and Dr. G.V.G. Krishnamurthy, former Election Commissioner along with other dignitaries.

April - 2011

Infrastructure and facilities :

Transport :

The school has purchased 1 new bus and with this the total number of buses the school owns are 10.

Smart Class :

One new Smart Class room has been set up in the school with the help of ‘Extra Marks’. It has been operational from 1^st April 2011.

Academics :

The new academic session began from the 1^st of April 2011 for Classes Pre Nursery to X. A special assembly was presented by the teachers on the first day of the school to welcome all the students. The Academic Session for Class XII had begun from 15^th March 2011. Class XI began from 15^th April 2011.

Activities (Classes VI to XII)

Interschool Cluster Competitions :

Sainik School Balachadi organized Athletic Meet on the 23^rd of April 2011 which was participated by four schools altogether. Aneri Kotecha of Class IX secured the 1^st Position in Shot-put.
Our school organized Table Tennis Tournament in which three other schools participated on the 30^th April 2011. Our school secured 1^st Position in the under 19 (boys), 2^nd Position in the under 19 (girls) and 3^rd Position in the under 16 (boys) Table Tennis Tournament. The Guests of Honour were Dr. Lal Rathod and Mr. R. K. Jain.

Participation in Inter - DPS Competition :

Our students participated in the Inter-DPS Singing Competition at Udaipur.

Grand Parents’ Day :

We celebrated the Grand Parents’ Day function on the 15^th April 2011 in which the grand parents of the students were invited. The Guest of Honour was Mrs. Maya Kothari, Head My Own Play House.

Annual Scholar Certificate Distribution :

On the 23^rd April 2011 there was the Annual Scholar Certificate Distribution function in which all the scholars of the school were awarded certificates. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Ved Pal, DRM, Rajkot.

Guest Speaker Programme :

Dr. Tapan Shah a Dental Surgeon alongwith his father, Dr. Pankaj Shah who is also a doctor gave information related to dental care and oral hygiene to the students of Classes X to XII through a multi media presentation on 20^th April 2011. A question-answer session was also held for students.

Remedial Classes :

Remedial Classes for Classes VI to X are being conducted once a week after school hours. Special classes are being conducted for Grade XII.

Sports Coaching :

Extra coaching for both boys and girls is being conducted for Table Tennis, Cricket and Swimming after school hours during week days.

Group Discussions :

Group Discussions for Classes X to XII were held on 30^th April 2011 on the topic ‘Politicians are the only cause for corruption’.

Olympiads :

Six Students of our school participated in the Science Olympiad Foundation and 4^th International Mathematics Olympiad and were chosen for the 2^nd level examination.
